BHS Graduation 2017
March 3, 2017
BHS Class of 2017 and Parents,

We are only a few months away from graduation! We want to share some of the plans for graduation events, with the understanding that some details are subject to change.
Important dates/notes;
  • Academic Assembly is to be determined
  • Class Dues and Fees-(not fees associated with a particular class like Art). This is the money that pays for things like their senior shirt and the banquet, and should have been paid to Ms. Gabaldon, and students cannot attend activities if these dues are not paid. Class dues are $5 per year which equals $20 for all 4 years at BHS
  • March 1-April 21, 2017 – RSVP/Purchase Banquet tickets. We will pay for Class of 2017 Seniors, who RSVP. Family members are invited to attend and must purchase tickets by April 21, there will be no sales after this time; cost will be $10 each, and will be sold through Ms. Gabaldon starting March 1. All money must be paid to Ms. Gabaldon by April 21st.
  • April 2 – May 10, 2017 – Report all scholarships received to Mrs. LaFayette in the Counseling office.
  • May 8-17, 2017 – Final Exams and EOC’s for the Seniors will be the last two weeks of school.
  • Wednesday, May 17, 2017; 6:30 pm. – Banquet Ceremony in the gym. All who are attending must RSVP in room 119 by April 21, 2017. We need an exact count for the caterer. Scholarships and awards will be announced. Dress code is nice (between khaki and suit coat), NOT graduation gowns or shorts.
  • May 18 and 19 – Senior clearance and check out. You will pick up forms from your counselor on the 18 or 19th, not before. Class of 2017 dues ($5 per year), class fees (Choir, welding, EMT etc.) must be paid, books turned in and a signature/grade obtained from each teacher. Seniors will pick up Pool Party wrist bands, Banquet Tickets, Commencement Parking Permits, etc. from Sponsor.
  • Sunday, May 21, 2017; 2:00 pm – Robing Ceremony at the BHS Gym.
Graduates choose two adults to robe them. Please adhere to the dress code below, Do not put on Gown until told to do so. Robing will occur in small groups; families are permitted/encouraged to take photos. In addition, the stage and back drop will be available after the ceremony for photos.
  • Sunday, May 21, 2017; 4:00 pm. – Baccalaureate, BHS Auditorium. This is an optional religious service organized by the Senior Class Officers.
  • Monday, May 22, 2017; 10:00 am – Commencement practice will start at the Gym and finish at the Belen High School Football Stadium. Graduates will sit in alphabetical order, except for NHS, Valedictorians and Salutatorians. Attendance is mandatory and we will practice until we get it right. If you don’t go to practice, you will not be allowed to participate in commencement. Dress is casual- NOT Graduation gowns
  • Monday, May 22, 2017 2:30 to 5:30 pm – Senior Pool Party, at the BHS pool(s). Seniors are invited for some food and fun. We are planning burgers/hotdogs. No Charge for Seniors. Seniors only. Security will be on duty, breathalyzer may be required.
  • Tuesday, May 23, 2017 7:00 pm – Belen High School Graduation at the football field. You need to be at the BHS Gym by 5:00 to line up. The “official” “receiving your diploma from the administrator” picture will be taken during this time. You will not be required to purchase/take this photo, but only graduates and staff will be allowed in the gym. We will start walking to the BHS Football Stadium in alphabetical order by 6:50. Each graduate will receive 2 parking passes; buses will run to and from BHS for other guests. ONLY the designated/official Graduation photographer will be allowed on the field during Commencement.
Hopefully, you have ordered or have your cap, gown, and tassel. If not you need to contact

Attendance
On-time, daily attendance is mandatory for students to benefit
to the fullest from the instructional program. The district
recognizes, however, that there are situations that dictate a
student’s absence. Therefore, in accordance with district
guidelines, absences may be excused for the following reasons:

1) Doctor’s appointment
2) Death in the family
3) Religious commitment
4) Extenuating circumstances, as agreed to by the
administration prior to the absence
5) Approved school activities

Please call the BHS attendance line at 966-1303 and leave a message if your son/daughter is going to be out for more than three consecutive school days . You will also be required to provide the appropriate documentation upon return for the absences to be excused. For all other absences (class period, running late, single day, etc…) please provide the appropriate documentation to the office upon return. It is not necessary to leave a message if your child is going to be out less than three days in a row.
